Over the past few years I've found myself drawn to images of birds. Attracted to their sleek form and unique beauty, but most of all to their calm aesthetic as they sit perched, observing, contemplating, waiting, knowing. In my most recent series “The Mysteries of the Universe Reveal Themselves to Birds” I juxtapose the birds with multiple layers of color and surround them with 'the Mysteries' represented by brightly colored superficial dots. In these pieces I straddle the line between abstraction and representation. Fantasy and reality. The real and the unreal. While I'm painting, I'm constantly thinking about color and spatial relationships. I want the viewer to be drawn in and their eyes to dance across the canvas and to perhaps become a little lost.
